| A non-profit unit of the School of Business, CARMA was established in 1997 with an interdisciplinary focus emphasizing topics relevant to the social and organizational sciences. From 2004 to 2007 faculty and doctoral students from over 200 universities from over 25 countries participated in CARMA events either live or via the Internet. |

| The Department of Accounting, under the leadership of Dr. Ruth W. Epps, and with the support of the department's Advisory Council, established the Controllers Executive RoundTable in 1999. The RoundTable enhances the professional development of controllers of major private and public companies, while cultivating a regional network of controllers facing common challenges and having distinctive professional interests as a group. Membership is limited to controllers of major companies that have significant operations in Virginia and is by invitation. |

| The Virginia Commonwealth University Schools of Art, Business, and Engineering have joined to form the da Vinci Center for Innovation in Product Design and Development. Teams comprised of students from each school take on a semester- long product development or design challenges posed to them by one of the Center’s industry partners. |

| The Information Systems Research Institute was established in 1991 as an outreach vehicle for the Department of Information Systems, whose mission is to facilitate professional education for current IT workers, technical assistance for specific business needs, and quality applied research and practical real world experience for our faculty and students. Through ISRI, faculty and students work in collaboration with industry to solve real problems through specific projects and custom training programs. |

| Richmond businessman and philanthropist, Sam Kornblau, donated $2.5 million to establish a real estate institute in the VCU School of Business. The Kornblau Institute focuses on research broadly related to commercial and residential real estate. These issues often benefit from an interdisciplinary approach and include such concerns as land use, housing and commercial development – the social, cultural and economic sides of the real estate business. |

| The Real Estate Circle of Excellence comprises an outstanding group of real estate and mortgage lending executives who benefit real estate majors by providing advice on the quality and relevance of the School’s educational and research programs, offering student internships, several scholarships, and the Real Estate Trends Conference, an annual conference which draws speakers and attendees nationwide. Members occasionally lecture to classes or assist in preparing case studies for use in classes. Circle members will also assist in identifying practical problems which require analysis. |

| The Risk and Insurance Institute (RII) and its precursor, the Risk and Insurance Center prepares students by providing a solid business foundation and grounding in the fundamentals of the industry. In addition the RII supports a financial technology/actuarial major for qualified students, as well as MBA and MS concentrations in financial security. The RII supports the industry by providing select continuing/executive education opportunities; creating and dissemination knowledge; and enhancing recruiting through internships, co-ops, career fairs, and participation in industry meetings and conferences. |

| Housed in Snead Hall, the VCU Center for Economic Education serves K-12 students and teachers in the Richmond metropolitan area. Both the VCEE and the VCU Center for Economic Education enjoy the support of the Virginia business community. |

| The Virginia Family Business Forum was formed to provide education and consultative services to assist dynamic and progressive family firms throughout the region. The Forum focuses on many of the unique problems encountered by family firms, and features a variety of programs. Seminars feature leading experts and family business owners provide participants the opportunity to benefit from the experiences of their peers. |
