Our mission at the Risk Management and Insurance Studies Center in the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business’s Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate is to prepare students for careers in risk management, financial services and other areas of the insurance industry by providing a sound educational foundation accentuated by meeting industry leaders through local and national meetings and conferences. We also organize and hosts career fairs as a means for students to explore employment opportunities in the city and the surrounding areas. Our focus extends to the business community as well with our continued work with business professionals in conducting research, consulting projects, and special seminars and conferences.
The Center supports the VCU chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma, the risk management and insurance studies international business fraternity. GIS encourages, establishes and enhances the professionalism of students in the risk management, insurance and actuarial science majors so they are prepared for employment in the industry. Through cohesion among members, Gamma Iota Sigma helps increase knowledge of the industry and encourages comfortable interaction with industry leaders and the formation of career-enhancing contacts.
